Volunteering or help us in a different way

Approx. 1.2 million people in the Netherlands live below the poverty line. They also live in Amsterdam.
Voedselbank Amsterdam (Amsterdam Food bank) provides weekly food packages for these people. To be able to do that we need your financial or other support.

Become a volunteer

You can volunteer anything from a few hours to a few days a week…

The Amsterdam Food Bank values any contribution you can make, your time and skills could be just what we need. And we want you to enjoy volunteering. There are lots of ways to get involved. Whatever role you choose, you will make a real difference to the life of someone in crisis. If you want to know more about volunteering at the Amsterdam Food.

And we can always use volunteers for:

  • Our warehouse: we sort and store donated food before it’s made into parcels for clients. You could help is vital as your work ensures our continuityOur uitgiftepunten (food bank pick-up locations in town): meet clients and weekly hand out food parcels
  • Our supermarket collections: help us at supermarkets to encourage clients to donate perishable food. First, you will gather with all the other volunteers. One of the regular volunteers will explain how everything works. You will present a grocery list with products that the Food Bank needs to the shoppers. You kindly ask if they want to buy one extra product from the list and donate it to the Food Bank. All donated products are sorted in crates. These groceries will be used to fill the packages that are handed out weekly to families who desperately need it. Please note; there is a morning and an afternoon shift where you can subscribe for.   • Drivers: we drive around town to collect food donations and we also drive around town to deliver weekly packages. All drivers must be have the appropriate drivers license: type B, BE or CE (code 95 for trucks)
  • A variety of activities for few hours, e.g. packing food parcels: check our activity calender Our activity calender shows all volunteer activities. These activities are usually a just a few hours. Simply login, select date and activity and apply. If you do not have an account, here’s the link to set up an account.

Donate and collect food

  • start a food drive with your friends, family, school, company, church, etc. with our ’fill-me boxes’: please contact our fundraiser
  • drop off food at our distribution center: please contact info@voedselbank.org or +31 20 638 44 77 or drop by during opening hours

Some of our most needed non-perishable food categories are:

  • Dried vegetables & peas (lentils, kidney beans, black beans, chick peas, etc.)
  • Canned vegetables & peas
  • Pasta, rice, couscous
  • Pancake flour, cereal, peanut butter, jam
  • Canned meat or fish
  • Olive oil, sunflower oil
  • Pasta sauce, soup
  • Gluten & lactose free products

Donate money

To us, financial support is as important as food donations. Thanks to your financial aid we can pay our bills (e.g. rent, electricity, transport costs, insurances). More over, thanks to your support we make the necessary investments to guarantee we can transport food packages safe en secure to our clients.
